Construction of the administrative building, entrance and parking lot of ZOO Ostrava
The original main entrance dating back to the 1970s no longer met the requirements for the comfortable check-in of a large number of visitors and so was replaced with a new one. This resulted in a modern complex including new utility networks, which, in addition to ticket offices, also include a spacious zooshop with souvenirs and memorabilia with underfloor heating, restrooms for visitors including toilets for the disabled, and a corner for parents with small children. The new entrance area also includes offices and facilities for zoo employees, as well as a presentation hall for holding various events for the public.
The project also included the construction of a parking area for visitors to Ostrava Zoo (79 parking spaces), the construction of a parking area in the Ostrava ZOO area (30 spaces) for visitors to Ostrava Zoo management and its employees. The construction of a rainwater retention tank and storm sewers with a light liquid separator was also addressed and the current P1 parking lot was connected to it. The retention tank is designed to catch torrential rains and then use them for cooling purposes in the zoo area.
The built-up area is approximately 480 m2. The building is divided into an operational part and a part for visitors. The structure of the building is brick and monolithic combined with a wooden structure including the cladding for the building.
The roof of the visitors building is a wooden structure in the shape of a collapsed surface copying 3 curves, and is dotted with circular skylights. Solar panels have been placed on the roof of the administrative part including a solar hippo.
